Project Name: Gorge Road Streetscape Upgrade
Client: City of Whittlesea
Budget: $800,000 AUD
Completion Date: April 2025

The Gorge Road Streetscape Upgrade is a strategic infrastructure project delivered for the City of Whittlesea, designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and amenity for the local community and visitors. Focused on improving the shopping precinct along Gorge Road, the project included key upgrades to streetscape elements, stormwater management, pedestrian access, and public realm features.

Scope of Works:

  • Road & Pavement Works
The upgrade included new asphalt road surfaces, concrete pedestrian paths, pram ramps, and tactile indicators to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility. Pavement tie-ins ensured a seamless connection with existing infrastructure.

  • Drainage Improvements
The installation of new stormwater pits, drainage pipes, and agricultural drains improved water flow management. Modifications to existing pits and connections to the current drainage system were also carried out to meet council standards.

  • Pedestrian Safety Enhancements
A raised zebra crossing was constructed at Reid Street to improve pedestrian access to shopfronts. Street lighting was upgraded at the intersection of Reid Street and Gorge Road to increase visibility and public safety.

  • Public Realm Upgrades
The outdoor dining and trading area was expanded with new timber decking, café umbrellas, bench seating, bike racks, and dining tables.

  • Landscaping & Environmental Design
Sustainable garden beds were introduced with passive irrigation using rainwater and street runoff. New canopy trees and understory planting were added to increase shade, biodiversity, and greenery along the streetscape.

  • Finishing Touches & Maintenance
Signage and line marking were updated throughout the project area. A 26-week establishment maintenance period ensures that all plantings are properly cared for. Adjustments to existing water services and protection of electrical assets were also completed.

This project demonstrates the City of Whittlesea’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, community-focused infrastructure that enhances local amenity, supports active lifestyles, and integrates sustainable urban design principles.

Moubray Street Community Park Upgrade

Location: Moubray Street, Albert Park
Client: City of Port Phillip
Completion Date: 28 July 2024
Project Value: $800,000

As part of our commitment to creating enduring community spaces, we completed the transformation of Moubray Street Community Park into a permanent public asset for the City of Port Phillip, in partnership with the Victorian Government’s Local Parks Program.

This upgrade replaced a temporary pop-up park with a thoughtfully designed, long-lasting green space next to Albert Park Primary School. Works included the removal of roadways and outdated surfaces, installation of accessible pathways, new park fencing, high-quality furniture (benches, picnic tables, and a shelter), and the development of communal garden beds.

To support active play and environmental sustainability, the project also introduced a recreation zone with a netball ring and climbing wall, along with extensive landscaping including new lawn, garden beds, and canopy trees. The result is a functional, inclusive, and biodiverse space for the Albert Park community to enjoy for years to come.
